On Friday, May 3, Questar III BOCES sent its Heavy Equipment Operation and Maintenance Program on the road to put on a demonstration to students at Averill Park High School. Students interested in exploring this educational and career pathway from East Greenbush CSD and Troy City Schools also attended.
The Heavy Equipment Program is currently based at the Durham Elementary School and is set to expand to the Rensselaer Educational Center next year. The program is based on the National Center for Construction Education and Research curriculum, teaching students how to operate and maintain large, construction-related equipment. Types of equipment include dozers, backhoes, front end loaders, forklifts and excavators.
Students currently enrolled in the program talked about their experiences, job opportunities and why students should consider this field. Students who go through the program earn their CDL license, work on major projects and many have job offers before graduating high school.
