On October 25, staff from Algonquin Middle School presented at the New York State Middle School Association Annual Conference at Verona Central School District.
Representing AMS were principal Rob Messia, assistant principal Josh Gela, intervention specialist Beth Magill, social studies teacher Erin Fitch, math teacher Sarah Keegan and science teacher Emily Caboot.
The topic of their presentation was “Climbing the Pyramid: Our M.S. RtI Journey to Meet the Needs of Every Student, Every Day,” where participants learned about Algonquin’s multi-year effort focused on Response to Intervention, based on participation in the NYS Middle School RtI Demonstration Project sponsored by NYSED and SUNY Buffalo. Topics included middle school benchmarking, progress monitoring, data-driven instruction, interventions for reading, writing and math and professional development activities that have occurred at AMS.
Principal Messia stated, “We are so fortunate to be involved in the NYS Middle School RtI Demonstration Project and to utilize their expertise and resources to support our students growth. This has been an outstanding journey for AMS and we are happy to share our experience with middle schools from across New York.”
