The annual Patriot’s Pen writing competition, sponsored locally by Sullivan Jones VFW Post 7466 in Poestenkill, had a theme of “What Makes America Great.”
Paula DeAndres placed first in the competition and took home a $100 prize. Madisyn Locci placed second and won $75 while Mikayla Malenfant finished third, winning $50. The three students are from Ms. Fitch and Ms. Perrotta’s Grade 8 Social Studies classes at Algonquin Middle School.
Winners have been invited to attend the VFW Auxiliary meeting on Dec. 17, where they will read their essays and receive awards, a medal and a certificate. Paula and Madisyn will have their essays advance to the District level with judging taking place on Dec. 15.
