The MHSL K-Kids filled our community with many acts of kindness during the 2019-2020 school year!
In the Fall, we partnered with Kiwanis and our school community to help promote the yearly AP Food Drive. We hosted our Veteran’s Day assembly. The K-Kids greeted each of our veteran guests with gifts of handmade poppy flowers, USA flags, and pins. We promoted our yearly sock drive for a local shelter with the Sock it to Shelter Drive. Some of our K-Kids enjoyed joining our local Sand Lake Kiwanis as volunteers at the community spaghetti dinner at the West Sand Lake firehouse in December. We continue to make spaghetti dinner place mats to be used at this community fundraising event.
In the Winter, the MHSL K-Kids hosted our third annual blood drive with the American Red Cross. Our K-Kids created thank you gifts of beaded hearts for each of our donors. During our February meeting, we created winter crafts for our senior citizens who receive meals from Meals on Wheels through the county’s Office of the Aging. We promoted our annual school wide Kindness Poster Decorating Contest and Random Acts of Kindness Week.
Our annual collections included can tabs for the Ronald McDonald House and Charity, recycled birthday card covers, and a school wide collection of Cheerful Birthday Cards. These beautiful cards will be attached to future meals for our local home-bound senior citizens.
To promote our mission of Kindness and unity in our school, the MHSL K-kids created a Kindness T-shirt with the motto: Wake up. Be kind. Repeat. This year we sold shirts, headbands, and reusable grocery totes with our kindness motto printed on them. All proceeds from the sale will be donated to Kelsey’s Promise, and Maddy’s Angel Pigs to support their mission of kindness in our community.
As our mission of kindness begins to grow, our K-kids expressed great interest in creating a school wide Kindness Club for the 2020-2021 school year.
We would like to thank our K-Kid families, our MHSL school community, Jean Hamlin, our Sand Lake Kiwanis representative, and our Averill Park community. Together we are a TEAM of Kindness!
