The University at Albany launched a new scholarship and two Averill Park High School students have been selected as winners.
The Capital District Leadership Award was “designed to recognize students with a passion for leadership and service experiences.” Finalists were interviewed and 10 students were recognized as Capital District Leaders, 20 freshmen were recognized as Capital District Fellows and all finalists were recognized with a scholarship.
Lauren Paris was selected as a finalist to receive $1,000 annually, equivalent to $4,000. McKenzie Swinson was selected as a Capital District Fellow, receiving $3,000 annually, equivalent to $12,000.
“The selection committee was inspired while reading the essays and recommendations for all students who applied for this distinction,” a release from UAlbany stated. “The campus community looks forward to the contributions these students will bring to UAlbany, and the role that they will play here as a peer leader.”
