  7. Algonquin News – April...

The third marking period ends on Friday, April 16. Report cards will be available for parents and students to review in SchoolTool on Saturday, April 24.

As a reminder, the NYS ELA Assessment is scheduled for Thursday, April 22 and Friday, April 23. Linked below is a copy of the letter that was emailed out to families yesterday regarding the New York State Assessments. Thank you again for your continued support of our school.

On Friday, the APO will share student Talent Show submissions on the morning announcements. Families can always tune in to the morning announcements by visiting our AMSNews YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCa6dAayrQP-IEoHIghV38Lg

Please remember that there are many easy ways to help our APO raise money! First, consider using smile.amazon.com when purchasing through Amazon – Algonquin Parent Organization can be set as your selected charity (your login information will be the same as amazon.com). It is simple to set-up and you can save it right to your account!

Box Tops have changed! No more clipping and sending in with students (which inevitably get lost in their backpack). Please consider downloading the Box Tops for Education app to your phone, create a simple account, and then just scan receipts (or have a student in your house do it)! You will again be asked to select your school to support – Algonquin is out there and ready to roll. It’s very easy, and every little bit counts! (See the attached document for additional help. Please reach out to Cat Headley if you have any questions. Headley70@gmail.com)

Also, from now until May 29, 2021 – our school will be participating in the Hannaford Helps tower at the West Sand Lake Hannaford. If you purchase 4 or more qualifying items, you will be given a receipt to add to our school pocket in the collection tower. Additional information is attached in the PDF.

Last but not least, we are always happy to have families donate directly to APO via PayPal using ams.parentorg@yahoo.com. Thanks!

As the seasons change students will be spending more time outdoors, including eating outside in our picnic area on dry weather days.

Students are encouraged to wear layers and to be prepared for the seasonably cool temperatures that can accompany the months of March and April.

NYS Senator Daphne Jordan’s office is sponsoring an Earth Day 2021 Showcase. Students can submit essays, poetry or artwork with the theme of “Trash is much more than garbage. How can you re-imagine it for a better future?” All submissions must be made electronically by 4/19/21 to jordan.nysenate.gov.

2021 Algonquin Yearbook! The AMS Yearbook can now be ordered online with Lifetouch. Please place your order by April 15, 2021. There will not be extra yearbooks ordered so if you child would like one, it needs to be ordered online.
**Yearbook pictures for virtual students**: Lifetouch and Shutterfly are offering another option for parents of virtual students to have their child’s picture in the yearbook. Please see the attached flier from Lifetouch to see how it works. This would need to be done by April 15th to have the photo included in this year’s yearbook.

As part of our yearbook each year we include “candid shots” of students working in classrooms. We don’t want to miss our virtual students with this part of the yearbook and encourage our virtual families to send in photos of students working at home. Please send photos to the Yearbook at: algonquinyearbook@apcsd.org.
