Barbara Gettig is calling it a career and retiring this month after working at the Averill Park Central School District for 20 years.
Initially, Mrs. Gettig wanted to work for the school district to have the same schedule as her children. She began her career at West Sand Lake Elementary School, where she worked in food service. In 2006, she became a teacher aide, first at WSL and then in the high school.
“One of my favorite memories is working in the WSL library with Jen Yost,” she said. “I also enjoyed learning about Earth Science in classes with Derek Minkler and Chris Reddy.”
Mrs. Gettig will miss her co-workers the most.
“There are so many interesting people who, besides their passion for teaching and guiding students, have quite a variety of interests in their leisure time,” she said.
In retirement, Mrs. Gettig plans to travel to visit family, read, hike, and maybe foster or adopt a dog.
