Wilfredo Reyes, Jr. joins Algonquin Middle School as a new Science teacher this year.
Mr. Reyes attended the University at Albany for both his undergraduate degree in Biology and his graduate degree in Secondary Education. He previously student-taught and substituted at the Shenendehowa and Lansingburgh school districts before joining APCSD.
“It doesn’t feel like work,” he added. “I enjoy being with students and attempting to afford them an opportunity for growth – academically, socio-emotional learning, philosophy, etc. Mostly, I enjoy learning from students and colleagues.”
When asked why he wanted to work in education to begin with, Mr. Reyes said, “I found that students lacked inquisitiveness as they got older for some reason, but I don’t know what that reason is. I think I can help students gain a healthy dose of skepticism and critical thinking skills that could reignite that curiosity.”
Fun fact! Mr. Reyes participates in the Polar Bear Plunge in Coney Island whenever possible.
