Winter is coming, and with it comes snow, ice and wind. The Averill Park Central School District would like to remind students, staff and families about how the District will handle weather-related closures and delays in the 2022-23 school year.
Please remember that the geographic terrain throughout our District varies greatly. While it may seem like it is only raining in one town, the mountain areas could be experiencing heavy snowfall and/or icy road conditions. Our Transportation Department closely monitors conditions throughout the District in the event of inclement weather.
Weather-related closures
At this time, the District plans on closing for traditional snow days when inclement weather makes travel unsafe. In addition, all events may be canceled when school is closed, including Child Care.
Weather-related delays
When our Transportation Department needs extra time to prepare due to overnight weather conditions, the District will use either a one-hour delay or a two-hour delay.
One-hour delay
All schools begin one hour later than usual and dismiss at the regular time.
- APHS: 8:30 a.m.
- AMS: 8:45 a.m.
- Elementary: 9:45 a.m.
Two-hour delay
All schools begin two hours later than usual and dismiss at the regular time.
- APHS: 9:30 a.m.
- AMS: 9:45 a.m.
- Elementary: 10:45 a.m.
Additional details
For both one-hour and two-hour delays, there will be no morning BOCES CTE programs for high school students.
Weather-related early dismissal
If inclement weather requires the District to close early, all after-school and evening activities, including Community Education will be canceled. Child Care will be provided until 6:00 p.m.
Half-day dismissals (weather-related)
- APHS: 10:25 a.m.
- AMS: 10:45 a.m.
- Elementary Schools: 12:00 p.m.
