Carol Winkley has been working in the Averill Park Central School District for 21 years and is set to retire this month.
“I always wanted to be a teacher, but life got in the way of me finishing my degree,” the long-time Teacher’s Assistant said. “When my oldest son went to kindergarten, I decided to become a teaching assistant so I could use the education I have to work in a school.”
Among her favorite memories, Mrs. Winkley includes working with students through service learning. She will miss the amazing people that she has worked with at Algonquin Middle School over the years.
In retirement, Mrs. Winkley plans to travel with her husband, spend time with her mother, volunteer at her church, and sew.
