Susan Ford is wrapping up her 20th and final year as a teacher in the Averill Park Central School District.
Mrs. Ford’s journey into teaching wasn’t a conventional one as she had a 20-year career in travel, doing group tours to Ireland until 9/11 happened. At the time, she returned to school and earned her Master’s Degree in Education, was hired for a one-year leave position at Averill Park High School, and has stayed on since.
Mrs. Ford has coordinated the Washington, D.C. trip at the high school and notes those trips, along with her Global 9 field trips to religious sites as some of her favorite memories. She also started an AP Bikers group which was held after school for the past four years.
“I’ll miss my co-workers the most,” she said. “We have an incredibly supportive group.”
Mrs. Ford will stay busy in retirement, flying to Texas for her niece’s wedding after the school year ends. She plans to spend time with family and is expecting her first grandchild soon. Additional time will be spent with her dog, biking, kayaking, and subbing at the high school.
