Experienced Educator Evan Klauber Joins APHS Leadership Team as Assistant Principal

The Averill Park Central School District is proud to welcome Evan Klauber as an Assistant Principal at Averill Park High School!

Klauber, an 18-year educator with a bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education from SUNY New Paltz and a master’s degree in Secondary Education and Building Leadership post-graduate degree from SUNY Stony Brook, joined the District in August following two years as the Cairo-Durham Middle/High School Assistant Principal and 16 years as an English teacher, predominantly at Smithtown High School West in Long Island.

“I know what a tight-knit community Averill Park is, and how supportive the community is of the District. I think being home in the Capital Region is a big part of it for me as well,” said Klauber on his decision to join the high school’s leadership team. “I’m really proud to be part of what the great administrators and teachers have in the works right now.”

Following the transition of Christina Mein from the high school to the District Office as the Special Education Assistant Director this summer, Klauber joins Principal Heath Quiles and Assistant Principal Rebecca Leach on the high school’s leadership team. The new high school assistant principal comes to the District with experience as an assistant coordinator of a social emotional resiliency skills program and as an English department chairperson.

“We are so incredibly excited to welcome Mr. Klauber to our staff at Averill Park High School,” Quiles said. “Mr. Klauber’s belief in the growth mindset and that we should always seek to embrace challenges as opportunities for improvement is truly admirable and I can’t wait to see how he applies that when working with our talented students and staff.”

When asked about what he is looking forward to most with the start of the 2024-25 school year taking place Thursday, Sept. 5, 2024, Klauber said establishing personal relationships with students, families and staff members is critical in his role of working primarily with 9th and 10th graders who are either new to the building like him, or are still getting accustomed to high school.

“Interacting with new kids, parents and building relationships is something I really pride myself in,” Klauber said. “Ultimately, we want to push students and staff members to their maximum potential. Getting to know them intimately is important in achieving that. It’s a new experience for all of us and we are all in it together.”

When he’s not watching New York sports or “Star Trek”, Klauber enjoys reading, writing, and spending time with his son, wife, and two black labs.
