5th graders at WSL have spent time this week learning about the events of September 11, 2001. Classes focused on the good that happened in the world after the tragedy, while also remembering the tragic losses. Students learned about ordinary people who became heroes, specifically “the man in the red bandana.” Mrs. Re brought in artifacts from her husband’s time working at Ground Zero. Students also had the opportunity to meet with the author of “Survivor Tree”, Marcie Colleen. “Survivor Tree” is a story of resilience and hope in a time of darkness. The 5th graders reflected on the power of hope after learning about the tragic events of 9/11. They learned about how the nation came together and how even in the darkest of times, there is always light. #AP_EveryStudentEveryDay
