The Averill Park Central School District is proud to celebrate Gordon Kaedy, APHS Social Studies Teacher, for his six years of service in the United States Marine Corps!
Mr. Kaedy has been with the Averill Park Central School District for 27 years and is proud of his service to his country.
“One story I always tell is in 1980, my battalion was traveling in the winter in South Korea for training, and I was driving a 32-ton Howitzer tank. There was some miscommunication on how thick the ice was, and we ended up sinking the gun in the water. I was pulled so hard from the driver’s seat, my boots fell off! We ended up staying in South Korea for two months without a weapon!” Kaedy said. “It was absolutely a great experience and I believe one of the main reasons I was hired in the District was because of my military service. I volunteer at the NYS Military Museum here and there, and it’s a gem. One of the best kept secrets in the Capital Region filled with so much history and stories behind the scenes.”
When asked on what advice he would give to Averill Park CSD students considering joining the military, Kaedy shared that the decision is a commitment that requires a lot of thought.
“I have the opportunity to talk to many students, and I never force upon them the need to join the military. It’s a personal choice and 100% a commitment.,” Kaedy said.
