The Averill Park Central School District is proud to celebrate Scott Day, Day Custodian at APHS, for his 20 years of service in the United States Army!
Mr. Day has been a Day Custodian at APHS for three years and is proud of his service to his country.
“Honestly, I just found it an honor to serve and to keep my family tradition rolling,” said Day. “My Grandfather served in World Wars I and II, and my cousins and uncles served in Vietnam and Korea. Growing up in a small town of 750 people in Iowa, there wasn’t much else to do other than farming.”
Starting his career completing Basic Training at Fort Riley in Kansas, Mr. Day was deployed to Germany for a stint of time and was stationed at Fort Drum in New York prior to being deployed for Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm. Following the operation, Mr. Day got married while being stationed at Fort Drum again, and was deployed to Germany for a second time.
Mr. Day spent time being stationed at a base in Georgia before being deployed to South Korea, where he ended his military career retiring at Camp Casey.
“It’s an amazing career. If you’re lost in any way and have no idea, see what the military can do for you. There are so many options,” said Day. “The learning experience itself, you’ll carry it with you for the rest of your life. Meeting people from all over the world is an amazing experience in itself.”
