  7. Honoring Those Who Served:...

The Averill Park Central School District is proud to celebrate Jesse Shepard, APCSD Groundskeeper, for his four years of service in the United States Marine Corps!

Mr. Shepard has been with the Averill Park Central School District for three years and is proud of his service to his country.

“I had a very enjoyable time. I was deployed twice, once in Iraq in 2008 and to Afghanistan in 2010. I did a lot of training in the Mediterranean between those years,” Shepard said. “I certainly established many friendships and lifelong memories. The training is always fun, I was able to participate in many different training opportunities.”

When asked on what advice he would give to Averill Park CSD students considering joining the military, Shepard shared to study hard for the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) test, as the results of that exam grant the individual taking it more opportunities in the military.

“My advice would be to prepare yourself as if you were taking the SAT exam for the ASVAB test. The higher you score on the ASVAB test, the more opportunities you unlock,” Shepard said. “The military uses your score as a building block and creates choice in your job with the higher you score.”
