Elizabeth Haworth is retiring from WSL School, after 32 amazing years! Her teaching career began back in 1992 when she joined the district through the Even Start program at WSL. Just a year later, she started teaching second grade, and she’s been there ever since. For a few years, she taught a multiage 1st and 2nd grade class, but second grade has always been her true home.
“Ever since I was in kindergarten I knew that I wanted to be a teacher, and I never wavered from that. It has always been my dream to be a teacher, and I can’t imagine doing anything else.”
Elizabeth says her best memories come from the connections she made with her students. While she was the one teaching, she believes her students were the ones who taught her. They gave her lessons in patience, hope, and resilience—and they filled her heart with joy. Some of those student relationships were so strong, they changed her life forever.
“They have truly shaped my life, and I will carry them in my heart always.”
“I will miss the relationships that I have built with my colleagues. They have become my second family. It has been a true privilege to work alongside such dedicated, talented, and supportive colleagues. They inspired me to grow both as a teacher and as a person.”
As she heads into retirement, Elizabeth is excited to travel, play pickleball, and spend more time with her family. One of the first adventures on the calendar is a family trip to Ireland this August! Elizabeth, thank you for the love and care you poured into your students and school for over three decades. Your passion and kindness have made a lasting difference. Congratulations on your retirement—you will be truly missed!
