As part of our continued efforts to comply with the New York State mandate requiring changes to school nicknames and mascot/logos that have a history of being associated with Native Americans by June 30, 2025, the Averill Park Central School District has officially transitioned from the “Warriors” to the “Golden Knights”.
After the State required this change, APHS students spent one year selecting a new nickname, which included soliciting input from the community and having the community vote to select the new nickname. The students then spent another year working with an outside vendor to design a new mascot.
As we move forward with this transition, we’ll be launching a countdown to the unveiling of the new Golden Knights mascot across our social media channels starting tomorrow, July 2, 2025. We encourage you to follow along and be part of this new beginning for our school community.
