A new addition to the Averill Park High School science hallway is sparking curiosity among students and staff. Thanks to a generous donation from community member Nancy Dunn, the hallway now features a rock and mineral display case showcasing specimens from around the world — including several from right here in New York State.
The collection once belonged to Dr. James R. Dunn, a pioneer in the field of geology who authored more than 100 technical publications and the book Conservative Environmentalism. Dr. Dunn received numerous honors throughout his career and served on more than 24 industry committees.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony officially unveiled the James R. Dunn Mineral Collection, during which Mrs. Dunn was presented with a plaque from the District in recognition of her generous contribution and in honor of Dr. Dunn’s legacy.
