  7. Miller Hill Sand Lake...

Throughout February, Miller Hill Sand Lake Elementary School celebrated Random Acts of Kindness (RAK) Month with activities that encouraged students to spread kindness in their classrooms, school, homes, and the greater Averill Park community. Led by the MHSL Student Council, each week focused on a different theme of kindness and ended with a Friday spirit day.

Students explored what kindness looks like and feels like, completed kindness challenge BINGO boards, and supported one another across grade levels. Fifth grade students wrote encouraging notes to third graders, first graders created Valentine’s cards for their lunch and recess monitor, and second graders built a “chain of kindness” by writing examples of kind actions on each link. Other classes made posters for a soup can drive, practiced giving compliments, and created kindness notes and virtual valentines for classmates and family members.

Students also focused on showing kindness at home during the February break by helping family members, supporting neighbors, and volunteering together. The month concluded with activities that encouraged students to continue sharing kindness throughout the Averill Park community.
