Five AP Robotics teams competed at the Northern New York State VEX Robotics Championship in Syracuse on March 4, joining many of the region’s top teams for a full day of qualification and elimination matches.
Team 5111A (Parker Dupuis, Roy Wajda, Michael Hughes, and Xander Ngin) had the strongest showing of the day, finishing qualification matches with a 6-1-1 record and placing fourth overall heading into alliance selection. Partnering with Team 53417P from John C. Birdlebough High School, the alliance advanced through the Round of 16 and Quarterfinals before narrowly falling in the Semifinals.
Teams 5111B (Winter Colwill, Connar Benson, David Ghosio, and Dillon Benson), 5111C (Max Impellizzeri, Devin Simiele, Wolfgang Fridmann, and Andrew Fazioli), 5111D (Brendan Duff, Ethan Archambeault, Stevie Matheke, and Parker Rivers), and 5111E (Edward Hughes, Lucas Wong, and Parker Mereness) also competed strongly throughout the day. Each team advanced to the elimination rounds, demonstrating impressive scoring ability, teamwork, and resilience against a challenging field of competitors.
Competing at the State Championship is a significant accomplishment, and having five teams represent the program highlights the dedication, preparation, and sportsmanship of Averill Park’s robotics students.
The program also thanks its donors for supporting the team: The Dupuis Family, The Wajda Family, The Colwill Family, F.W. Webb, and Troy Sand and Gravel.
