Poestenkill Elementary School launched its One School, One Book initiative in March, organized by the school’s Character Education Team. This year’s featured book is Lulu and the Brontosaurus by Judith Viorst, a humorous chapter book about a girl named Lulu who demands a brontosaurus for her birthday and sets off on an adventure when she doesn’t get her way.
As part of the initiative, students participated in activities connected to the reading. In the main hallway display case, students shared their first impressions of Lulu on sticky notes, reflecting on the character and her actions.
Homeroom teachers in grades 3-5 also received a copy of The Chocolate Touch by Patrick Skene Catling as an optional read-aloud to complement the schoolwide book. The story follows a boy who loves chocolate so much that he wishes everything he touches would turn to chocolate, only to learn that there can be too much of a good thing.
