  7. WSL Students Dive Into...

Students at West Sand Lake Elementary School took a deep dive into marine science as the Whalemobile visited on March 16 and 17.

The experience began with an interactive lesson where students learned about different whale species and how they live across the world’s oceans. Gathered around a large floor map, students explored whale migration patterns and habitats, using models to better understand where these animals travel and why.

The highlight of the visit came as students stepped inside a life-size inflatable whale, where they experienced what it might feel like to be inside one of these massive animals. Inside, students examined real baleen—filter-feeding structures whales use instead of teeth—gaining a hands-on understanding of how whales eat and survive in their environments.

The program combined movement, discussion and tactile learning, giving students a memorable, immersive look at ocean ecosystems and the science behind them.
