  7. 2026 Retirements: Aaron Heffner

After nearly 30 years of service, Averill Park Director of Facilities Aaron Heffner will retire at the end of the month.

Heffner began his career with the District in June 1997 and has been instrumental in maintaining school facilities and grounds, supporting daily operations while helping the District navigate complex challenges.

“We thank Aaron for his tireless and passionate dedication to Averill Park,” Superintendent Dr. James Franchini said, recognizing his leadership in both routine operations and during critical situations.

Heffner said the relationships he built with coworkers stand out most, along with the shared commitment to supporting students and staff.

“It has been an honor and a privilege to serve and work alongside such dedicated and hardworking individuals,” Heffner said. “I am especially thankful for the commitment to Captain Kilowatt’s energy program over the years. More importantly, the continued focus on serving our students with care and purpose is something I deeply admire.”

Heffner also expressed appreciation for the lasting relationships he built during his time with the District.

“These experiences will stay with me as I begin this new chapter,” he said. “I think everyone’s hope is to leave something better than you found it.”

Known to many as “Captain Kilowatt,” Heffner’s impact will be felt across the District for years to come.

Heffner plans to travel with his wife of 40 years, visiting family members across the country and exploring national parks. The District thanks Aaron for his service and wishes him the best in retirement.
