  7. E-Bike and E-Scooter Safety...

Recently, we have observed an increase in the number of students riding, or requesting to ride, e-bikes on and around school property during the school day and evening hours. Additionally, a small number of students have been seen riding without helmets.

As use continues to increase, we want to ensure that all students understand expectations and safety requirements.

Students should only ride these devices on roadways and should always wear a helmet. Students should not ride on sidewalks, grass areas, playgrounds, or athletic spaces. Please follow all posted speed limits.

These expectations are in place to protect student safety, preserve school grounds, and ensure a safe environment for pedestrians, buses, and vehicles. Students found to be in violation of these safety guidelines may face disciplinary consequences.

E-bikes and e-scooters can travel at speeds up to 20–25 mph depending on the type, which increases the risk of injury if not used responsibly. New York State law requires riders to be at least 16 years old, and helmets are required for e-scooters and certain e-bike classes.

We also want to highlight the importance of proper battery care. Lithium-ion batteries can present a fire risk if damaged, improperly charged, or left unattended while charging.

We appreciate your partnership in reinforcing these expectations with your child(ren). Our shared goal is to support safe, responsible use of these devices while maintaining a safe environment for all students.
