A Message From APCSD Superintendent Dr. James Franchini
Dear Averill Park CSD Community,
The Averill Park Central School District would like to take a moment to reflect on the widespread civil unrest happening in cities both near and far after the tragic death of George Floyd in Minneapolis. This comes at an already stressful time that our communities are experiencing with the COVID-19 pandemic.
Our mission is to meet the needs of and create opportunities for every student every day, which includes providing a safe, caring learning environment, and the District prides itself on teaching acceptance of all backgrounds.
Our efforts of promoting tolerance throughout APCSD has earned Algonquin Middle School the national honor of recently being designated the Anti-Defamation League’s “Gold Star No Place for Hate” school for the seventh consecutive year. At the High School, A World of Difference Club worked hard all year long to earn APHS “No Place for Hate” designation, as well.
Although we must continue to adhere to physical distancing during these unprecedented times, we strive to connect socially and emotionally with our students. Our school counselors, teachers, administrators, and other staff members will continue to offer support so that all of our students, regardless of their background, are provided with the resources needed to reach their greatest potential.
We know that our students are connected to the outside world now more than ever through various social media channels. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, regardless of your child’s age, he or she may have strong emotions after experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event. Some children react right away while others show signs much later. How children react can vary.
We would like you to know that we continue to be here for our students during these trying times. Students can reach out to their school counselors directly, or to their teachers, who will help facilitate a meeting.
Together we are Warrior Strong.
Dr. James Franchini
Superintendent of Schools
