Dear APHS Students, Parents and Guardians,
Thank you for a great year!
In our final newsletter for the year, we would like to take a moment to say thank you to our entire school community at the conclusion of this unforgettable school year. Our students worked very hard this year both in person at APHS and virtually through distance learning. Thank you to the faculty, staff and all of the adults at home with our students that helped them be successful this year, it truly was an Averill Park Community effort! Go Warriors!
Please note that we continue to await guidance from the New York State Department of Education and the Governor’s Office in regards to the fall. As we get more information and develop plans for September we will share more information as a school district on how we will be able to meet the needs of students in the coming year.
Continue to check the district social media pages and website for updates and information.Be well, stay safe and have a wonderful summer!

APHS-Graduation 2020-Notice for Split Families
As we head quickly towards our graduation event on June 27th, at the Jericho Drive-In, we are happy to announce that we will now be able to accommodate a second vehicle for those students who have a split family. Per the Governor's regulations, this second vehicle should contain only immediate family members who live in the same household, and all individuals should remain in their vehicles for the duration of the event. If you are in need of a second vehicle for the purpose of accommodating a split family, please contact Mrs. Perez at the high school via email (email@example.com) or call her directly at 674-7002. We look forward to celebrating the APHS Class of 2020 with you!
The Counseling Center needs to know what your post high school plans are. If you have not already done so, please use the following link and provide us with the information we need regarding your college, military or work plans after graduation. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScTTNc5e-KN57Zh9ASGQ7lsMttLwX6Dp3_4nujGp6Wi1hpdsg/viewform?usp=sf_link
Class of 2021 Senior Photo Sessions
Senior Photo sessions will be at the Lifetouch Studio in Glenmont in June and July. (The Studio is working on dates now...) June session notifications will be by email and July notifications will be by both email and mail communications. We will be using the drape / tux, provided by the Studio, which will be steamed between sittings. The cap / gown will also be disinfected between sittings. All precautions have been taken for health and safety. The cost of the sitting is $15, which includes at least 10 proofs with 2 outfit changes if wanted. Due to the size of the photography studio, only one student is allowed at one time. Parents will not be allowed in the studio at the time of the sitting because they cannot maintain social distancing mandates with 3 people in the room. LifeTouch will be diligent in not overlapping sittings so no one should have to wait. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work through all of this together. A Message from the District Office
The Averill Park Central School District would like to take a moment to reflect on the widespread civil unrest happening in cities both near and far after the tragic death of George Floyd in Minneapolis. This comes at an already stressful time that our communities are experiencing with the COVID-19 pandemic.
Our mission is to meet the needs of and create opportunities for every student every day, which includes providing a safe, caring learning environment, and the District prides itself on teaching acceptance of all backgrounds.
Our efforts of promoting tolerance throughout APCSD has earned Algonquin Middle School the Anti-Defamation League’s national honor of recently being designated a “Gold Star No Place for Hate” school for the seventh consecutive year. At the High School, A World of Difference Club worked hard all year long to earn APHS “No Place for Hate” designation, as well.
Although we must continue to adhere to physical distancing during these unprecedented times, we strive to connect socially and emotionally with our students. Our school counselors, teachers, administrators, and other staff members will continue to offer support so that all of our students, regardless of their background, are provided with the resources needed to reach their greatest potential.
We know that our students are connected to the outside world now more than ever through various social media channels. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, regardless of your child’s age, he or she may have strong emotions after experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event. Some children react right away while others show signs much later. How children react can vary.
We would like you to know that we continue to be here for our students during these trying times. Students can reach out to their school counselors directly, or to their teachers, who will help facilitate a meeting.
Together we are Warrior Strong.
