Robert Messia, Principal

Mr. Messia was appointed Principal of Algonquin Middle School in August 2011. Prior to becoming principal, Mr. Messia served as Assistant Principal for two years. In addition, Mr. Messia spent six years teaching seventh and eighth grade social studies here at Algonquin. Mr. Messia worked for five summers with the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth and also participated in several years of curriculum development work with the Upstate New York American History Education Alliance. Mr. Messia earned his B.A. in Social Studies Education from Siena College, a M.S. in Curriculum Development and Instructional Technology from the University at Albany and a C.A.S. in Educational Leadership from the College of Saint Rose.

 

Evan Klauber, Assistant Principal

Mr. Klauber joined AMS in November 2025 after serving as assistant principal at the Averill Park High School Leadership since August 2024. Previously he worked at Cairo-Durham Middle/High School as an assistant principal for two years. Prior to that, he worked as an English teacher for 16 years, predominantly at Smithtown High School West. Mr. Klauber also has experience as the assistant coordinator of a social emotional resiliency skills program and as an English department chairperson. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education from SUNY New Paltz and a master’s degree from SUNY Stony Brook, where he also completed a post-graduate program in Building Leadership. Mr. Klauber is a firm believer in the growth mindset and that we should always seek to embrace challenges as opportunities for improvement. Mr. Klauber enjoys reading, writing, and spending time with his son, wife, and two black labs.
