Robert Messia, Principal

Mr. Messia was appointed Principal of Algonquin Middle School in August 2011. Prior to becoming principal, Mr. Messia served as Assistant Principal for two years. In addition, Mr. Messia spent six years teaching seventh and eighth grade social studies here at Algonquin. Mr. Messia worked for five summers with the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth and also participated in several years of curriculum development work with the Upstate New York American History Education Alliance. Mr. Messia earned his B.A. in Social Studies Education from Siena College, a M.S. in Curriculum Development and Instructional Technology from the University at Albany and a C.A.S. in Educational Leadership from the College of Saint Rose.

 

Brian Rhode, Assistant Principal

Dr. Rhode was appointed Assistant Principal of Algonquin Middle School in May 2020. Prior to becoming Assistant Principal, he was most recently the Director of Professional Development and Teacher Evaluation for the district from July 2018 until May of 2020. Before becoming an administrator he spent thirteen years teaching at Poestenkill Elementary School in a variety of grade levels including 1st, 2nd, 5th, and 4/5 social studies. Prior to this, Dr. Rhode taught 1st grade at West Sand Lake Elementary School for two years. Dr. Rhode holds a B.A. in Communications from Eastern University, a Master of Education degree from West Chester University, a C.A.S. in School Building Leadership from the University at Albany, and a Doctorate in Education Policy and Leadership also from SUNY at Albany.
