  7. Assemblyman Bendett Visits With...

Newly elected New York State Assemblyman Scott Bendett visited with members of the Averill Park CSD administration and Board of Education to discuss state aid funding this morning.

Under the Governor’s proposal, the District is slated to only receive a three-percent increase in foundation aid from the state, which is the minimum increase the state is providing to school districts this year. If this is the final amount in the approved state budget, it will lead to a decrease in services and opportunities for students.

The District is advocating for the Hold Harmless provision to be tied to the rate of inflation, which is approximately eight-percent as opposed to the three-percent currently proposed. The District is also advocating for the formula used to determine foundation aid to be reevaluated and updated. This formula was created in the 2007-08 school year. For more information, visit the Budget Corner on the District website, which includes a recent budget presentation made to the Board of Education.

Thank you to Assemblyman Bendett for taking the time this morning to listen to the District’s concerns.
